Born in Hungary with Austro-German roots, 1979, Sebestyén NyÃrö graduated from 'E. Dohnányi Special Vocational School of Musical Arts', in Hungary (studied with his uncle, Gábor NyÃrö). He studied with László Gyimesi in Basel Music Academy in Switzerland, and holds
1. Master's Degrees in Piano Teaching (Lehrdiplom),
2. Performance (Konzertdiplom) and a
3. Summa cum Laude Honours Degree of the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary
as well (instructed by B. Szokolay & J. Jandó). His degree concert's 2nd part contained the entire Goldberg- variations BWV 988 (similar to András Schiff's degree concert), taking all repetitions and lasting about 85 minutes.
Sebestyén came to The Hartt School in 2008 to study with Oxana Yablonskaya. At present (2010), Sebestyén is a DMA student at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Connecticut, working with
Prof. Neal Larrabee (a former pupil of the famous russian virtuoso Stanislav Neuhaus).
• He was given support and encouragement by pianists such as the late Lev Naumov, a former pupil of legendary Heinrich Neuhaus (Stanislav Neuhaus' father), or Zoltán Kocsis, a living giant in the world of classical piano playing of our time, as well.
• Sebestyén has received numerous honors and scholarships and served as organist in churches of Hungarian, Swiss and American Christian communities. His uncle, Gábor, is a beloved teacher of piano at the Liszt Academy in Hungary, and also an organist. Sebestyén enjoys familiarizing young music students with new or different works, giving 'crash courses,' when he is in Hungary.
• He is the German-Hungarian translator, editor and designer of a book on Bach's keyboard works ornamentation by the reputed Bach scholar Hans Klotz, licensed by the world-known Bärenreiter Publishing House, Germany (is being published by MHMC Budapest through 2009-2010).
• His recording of the Goldberg-variations BWV 988 by J. S. Bach has been released by the MHMC Budapest, 2009 and will be commercialized in 2010 in Hungary. Please see the review of Mr. Harris Goldsmith from New York Concert Review, 2010 April, desribing him as a 'supreme talent.'
In addition, Sebestyén is a Hungaroton (Naxos-Group) artist as well: their cooperation will be resulted in an upcoming CD realization in 2010. He is the chamber music partner of the famous Sopranist Eva Csapó, the violonist Alexandre Dubach (a Milstein-pupil), and the world-renowned russian emigrant cellist Mark Varshavsky, all living and working in Switzerland.
"Mr NyÃrö impressed me as being a very deep, thoughtful and serious musician.
He is a musician who is not satisfied with a mere text of the composition he is learning, but as a pianist who immerses himself deep into the research of the composers ideas and intent. Mr NyÃrö is a technically advanced and with the skills of the virtuoso."
